Following up on an earlier post of ours, we are pleased to announce the completion of our project assessing connections between mental health and farm business management. The Healthy Minds, Healthy Farms report is the result of a year of research, engagement, analysis, and collaboration.
Our team worked with Farm Management Canada, in collaboration with Farm Credit Canada and a highly skilled research team to gather data from across Canada on these subjects. Through a survey of 1,735 farmers, a series of 72 interviews, and a set of 14 focus groups, we heard from farmers and people working alongside farmers about supports for farmer mental health and business management. These research participants shared a broad range of thoughtful and meaningful insights, providing a wealth of knowledge for us to reflect upon and discuss.
Together, our team gathered, synthesized, and presented the findings that shaped this report’s recommendations for concrete action supporting Canadian farmers. Agriculture is a Canadian tradition, being important for our national economy and identity. By strategically supporting our farmers through business management and mental health resources, we can ensure that they can thrive in their work for years to come.
